Mr. Quek taught the International History content in an engaging and relevant way. During his lectures, I was able to get a good grasp of each topic as he made the information easy to digest, clearly signposting what happened, who was involved and its effects. I also found it useful that he pointed out what was important and explained how to use the information in our arguments. The essay structure he taught in J1 provided the basis for me to develop my argument in J2, and I learnt a good framework for organising my own notes. For instance the basic perspective-action-impact approach was very useful in helping me to form a coherent understanding of each topic. Mr. Quek was able to engage us by asking questions, involving us in the lesson with group presentations, and having a clear structure and direction to each lesson. He was patient in his explanations, and would always respond quickly to e-mails. I appreciated the comments he gave on my essays and the many resources he provided us, including essays from other students and seniors, as they provided extra details and pointers that we did not have time for in class. He was dedicated as a teacher and effective at conveying the content and teaching the skills for History.
I just completed my A levels at HCI and am applying to study literature/education studies and literature in the UK.
